Female Hockey
Welcome! We hope that you and your family consider the Female Hockey Program for your daughter’s sport activity. We would be happy to answer all of your questions regarding the Female Hockey Program at any time.
Our Female Hockey Program believes that hockey is for life. There are opportunities for higher-level competitive hockey and for those players just looking for an activity.
Our player base is made up of new players, transfers from boys hockey, or transfers from ringette. Every year, we have new players join our Female Hockey Program at different age levels.
The Female Hockey Program is proud to support our players through several initiatives made possible by past committee volunteers and the Stars Cup for Life tournament. We are pleased to announce our support for team development. Each team has options for on-ice or off-ice team training. Secondly, all players will have the option to receive equipment bags or clothing. Finally, we have enough jerseys (home & away) for each player with our own Stars/ Saints logo. Our Female Hockey Program has the same look from the Atoms to the Midgets.
Our season-ending hockey tournament is known as the Stars Cup for Life. We have teams from Ontario, Saskatchewan and rural Manitoba that travel to play in this competitive tournament. Look for us at Southdale and other south-Winnipeg arenas in late March.
Who We Are
The St. Boniface Female Hockey Committee (SBFHC) is responsible for organizing, promoting and advancing the female minor ice hockey program in St. Boniface and Transcona. The SBFHC Chair is a voting member of the St. Boniface Minor Hockey Association. St. Boniface is the only hockey association in Winnipeg with a female hockey committee.
The SBFHC is comprised of a convener, vice-convener, Stars Cup for Life tournament chair, treasurer, secretary and a representative from the Transcona Minor Hockey Association.
The SBFHC has a position responsible for the AA programs. Additional members are appointed from the SBFHC hockey teams. These members assist in the preparation and execution of the Stars Cup for Life tournament (held in late March).
Female teams are formed according to Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association rules based upon the number of players registered at each age division. The number of registered players and the minimum/ maximum roster size determines the number of teamsto be entered. The number of teams entered then determines the number of teams at the A1, A2, and A3 level of play.
Female hockey is categorized into the following:
Novice: 8 and under-A1; A2; A3
Atom: 9-10 yrs - A1; A2; A3
Peewee: 11-12 yrs - A1; A2; A3
Bantam:13-14 yrs - AA: A1; A2; A3
Midget: 15-17yrs - AA: A
Peewee: 11-12 yrs - A1; A2; A3
Bantam:13-14 yrs - AA: A1; A2; A3
Midget: 15-17yrs - AA: A
Female teams are assigned to community centres within the St. Boniface and Transcona areas. The benefits of this assignment include access to community gyms and outside practice ice. All the female teams are known either as the “Stars”, or, in the case of the AA programs, the “Saints”.
