About The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) is a community club based basketball league, open to boys and girls ages 5-18. There are two programs offered during the year: Teams are broken into age groups with gender split starting at age 8. The teams are co-ed for 5-7 year old participants. The program allows the children to start playing basketball at an early age and continue to develop and strengthen their skills up to the age of 18. The WMBA is a non-profit program that began in the summer of 1997, which included over 400 participants on 41 teams throughout the city of Winnipeg. The 2007-2008 season attracted over 3000 participants on over 250 teams. WMBA promotes a fair play policy for all participants. Games are played on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the age group, and there is one practice weekday evenings in one of the local gyms. The exact practice schedule to be determined once the teams are created. Players 11 years of age and under play on Saturday's between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; while participants that are 12 yrs and older play on Sundays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. It is in the best interest of the Community Club to have all registrants from Southdale assigned to Southdale teams. However, some times this is not always possible due to various factors such as, but not limited to; not enough and/or too many players for a team, no one willing coach the team, no practice gyms available. Further information regarding the WMBA can be found at http://www.wmba.ca/. | ||
