What is the Karate Dojo and Martial Arts?
It is a formal karate/martial arts club operating at the Southdale Community Centre. Our purpose is to provide training in traditional Japanese/Okinawan karate to residents of Winnipeg. The Club operates on a non-profit basis and is run by an Executive Committee made up of elected members.

What style of Karate do we teach?
Our club trains in Chito-ryu karate – a well-defined, traditional style of karate originating in Japan but with roots in Okinawan Te and Chinese kempo. It was formally created in the 1940’s originally developed by O’Sensei (Dr. Tsuyoshi Chitose) based upon his life-long study of martial arts. It has become one of the most popular and established styles in Canada as well as other countries. We also teach Shotokan Karate-do and Judo.

To which associations is the club affiliated?
The main affiliation for our club is The Karate Association (Manitoba Division) (TKA(Mb.Div))

Who is the instructor?
At the present time the primary instructor is Sensei Hal who handles most of the routine weekly instruction. Sensei Hal has a 6th Degree Black Belt, is a past Manitoba Black Belt Champion, and a Manitoba Provincial Judo Champion. Our club is also fortunate to have a good working relationship with the TKA(Mb.Div) and senior instructors from other clubs who may visit our club 1 – 2 times each month to run classes. Advanced instruction with very senior instructors is available at special clinics, which are held two or three times each year. These clinics will be organized by either our club and/or the TKA (Mb.Div) and all members should make an effort to attend regardless of their belt level.
